Editing an agent

Use the quick drawer for fast edits, or open the full editor for skills and marketplace options. Learn how unsaved changes are handled, and how to duplicate an agent.

There are two ways to edit an agent in Contextium: the quick drawer and the full editor. Both are available from the Agents list. Which one you use depends on what you're trying to change.

The quick drawer: fast edits in place

Click any agent row on the Agents list and a drawer slides in from the right. This is the quick drawer — designed for small, frequent edits you want to make without navigating away.

From the quick drawer you can:

  • Rename the agent
  • Update the description
  • Edit the system prompt directly in the text editor

Changes you make in the drawer are not saved automatically. If you try to close the drawer after making edits, Contextium will warn you before discarding your changes. Click Save to keep them, or Discard to abandon them.

For anything beyond these basics — attaching skills, managing the marketplace listing — use the full editor.

The full editor: complete control

To open the full editor, click an agent row to open the drawer, then click Open Full Editor at the bottom of the drawer. Alternatively, hover over an agent row and use the actions menu.

The full editor gives you access to everything:

  • Name and description — same as the drawer
  • System prompt — with a larger editing area
  • Manage Skills — attach or remove skills from your Skills Library
  • Publish to Marketplace / Edit Listing — manage the agent's public marketplace listing (web only)

Like the drawer, the full editor warns you before discarding unsaved changes. If you navigate away or close the tab with unsaved edits, you'll be prompted to confirm.

Unsaved changes: what to expect

Both the quick drawer and the full editor protect you from accidentally losing work.

  • If you close the drawer with unsaved changes, a confirmation prompt appears asking whether to save or discard.
  • If you leave the full editor page with unsaved changes, the same prompt appears.

You'll never lose edits silently — Contextium always gives you a chance to save first.

Duplicating an agent

Duplicating is useful when you want to create a variation of an existing agent — for example, testing a different system prompt without changing the original, or creating a localised version of an agent for a different team.

To duplicate an agent:

  1. Go to Dashboard → Agents.
  2. Hover over the agent row to reveal the actions menu (the three-dot menu).
  3. Click Duplicate.

A copy of the agent is created immediately. It has the same name with (copy) added at the end, and it inherits all settings from the original — including the system prompt and any attached skills. You can rename it and modify it freely without affecting the original.
