Understand usage limits
What counts against your plan limits and what happens when you exceed them.
Each Contextium plan has limits on the number of users, files, and storage. Here's how they work.
Check your usage
Go to Settings > Usage to see how much of each limit you've used.
What happens when you exceed limits
If your workspace goes over its plan limits (usually after a downgrade), Contextium gives you a 7-day grace period before enforcing restrictions.
During the grace period (days 1-7)
- Full access to all features continues.
- A yellow warning banner appears with a countdown.
- Email reminders are sent on day 1, 3, and 6.
After the grace period (day 8+)
- Files become read-only — you can view but not edit, create, or delete.
- CLI access is blocked.
- Excess team members are automatically suspended (oldest first; the Owner is never suspended).
Restore full access
- Upgrade your plan — restrictions are lifted immediately.
- Reduce usage to meet your plan's limits — access restores automatically.
MCP & CLI call limits
Free tier workspaces are limited to 2,000 MCP & CLI calls per month. Every request made via an MCP client (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) or the Contextium CLI counts as one call.
What happens when you hit the limit
Once you reach your monthly call limit, MCP and CLI requests return a 429 error until the limit resets at the start of the next calendar month. Web app access is unaffected.
Upgrade to Pro for unlimited MCP & CLI calls.
