Switching guide

Switch to Contextium

Wherever your context lives today — files in repos, one vendor's chat app, or a docs platform — here is exactly how to move it, what transfers, and how long it takes.

Where are you coming from?

Pick your current setup for the specifics

Same day

From CLAUDE.md files

Drop your file contents into a Contextium library, connect Claude Code via MCP, and share with the team. Keep a thin CLAUDE.md pointing at Contextium if you like.

Same day

From Cursor Rules

Keep behaviour rules in .cursor/rules — move the shared knowledge (architecture, conventions, decisions) into Contextium so every tool sees it, not just Cursor.

Same day

From Claude / ChatGPT Projects

Export project knowledge files and instructions, add them to a library, and the same context reaches chat, editor and terminal — across vendors.

From Notion

Connect the Notion integration and import pages — content, subpages, images and formatting come across automatically.

From GitBook

GitBook content is already Markdown — import it directly into libraries and keep your Git-style versioning habits.

Every migration is the same three steps

1

Bring your content in

Import or paste your existing context into Contextium libraries — Markdown-first, organised how your team thinks.

2

Connect your AI tools

Add the Contextium remote MCP URL (or run npx @contextium/mcp-server@latest setup) in Claude, Cursor, Copilot and any MCP-compatible tool.

3

Invite your team

Teammates join the workspace and connect their own tools. From then on, everyone’s AI loads the same versioned context.

Built for teams that review before they adopt

The reasons to choose Contextium hold no matter what you're switching from.

No vendor lock-in

Works with any MCP-compatible AI tool — Claude, Cursor, Copilot, Gemini and more. Your context is never trapped in one editor or model.

Low token usage by design

Relevance-based loading serves the context each task needs — not your whole knowledge base on every request.

Versioning & event-log governance

Every change is versioned with an event log, so teams can see who changed what and roll back.

Flat, transparent pricing

Free for individuals, one simple per-seat price for teams. No usage meters or surprise overage bills.

Frequently asked questions

How long does switching to Contextium take?

For file-based sources (CLAUDE.md, Cursor Rules) most teams are running the same day: create a workspace, drop the content in, connect tools via one MCP URL. Docs-platform imports (Notion, Confluence, GitBook) depend on volume but are typically done within a day.

Do I have to switch everything at once?

No. The most common path is incremental: put shared, cross-tool context into Contextium first, keep your existing files or docs tool running alongside, and retire them (or keep them slimmed down) once the team is comfortable.

Will my AI tools need to change?

You keep your tools. Contextium connects to Claude (Desktop and Code), Cursor, Copilot, Gemini and any MCP-compatible tool — via a hosted remote MCP URL, a local MCP server, or the npm CLI.

What if I switch AI vendors later?

Nothing changes. Contextium is vendor-neutral, so context is never stranded inside one vendor’s app. Connect the new tool with one URL and it arrives already briefed.
