Set library storage

Every library has a storage setting that controls where its files live. The default is cloud storage, which works everywhere. On the desktop app, you can switch to on-device storage for libraries that need to stay local.

To change storage, open a library, click Settings, then select Storage from the left menu.

Storage options

Cloud — files are stored in Contextium and synced across all your devices automatically. This is the default for all new libraries and works in both the web and desktop apps.

Vault (Pro plan, desktop only) — files are stored encrypted on your device and never uploaded to Contextium's servers. Use this for documents that must not leave your machine. Files are encrypted with AES-256-GCM.

Local (Pro plan, desktop only) — files are stored as plain text in a folder you choose on your hard drive. When you select Local, a folder picker opens immediately. You can change the folder later via Settings → Storage → Change Path.

Vault and Local storage are only available in the Contextium desktop app. External sync (Google Drive, OneDrive) is automatically disabled for libraries using either of these modes.

Sync a library to Google Drive

1. Connect your Google account in Workspace Settings → Connections.
2. Open the library, go to Settings → Storage.
3. Under External Sync, click Select Folder next to Google Drive.
4. Browse your Drive, select a folder (or create a new one), and click Save.

Once linked, click Sync Now to push files on demand, or Change Folder to update the destination. The last sync date appears below the folder path.

Sync a library to OneDrive

1. Connect your Microsoft account in Workspace Settings → Connections.
2. Open the library, go to Settings → Storage.
3. Once connected and setup is complete, click Sync Now next to OneDrive.

If setup is incomplete, click Complete Setup and finish the OneDrive connection in Workspace Settings first.
